Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. It is my great honor and pleasure to stand here and deliver this speech today.
As we all know, China is undergoing a rapid transformation from an agricultural society to a modern industrialized nation. Along with this transformation comes the need for Chinese people to communicate effectively in English, the most widely spoken language in the world. However, the way in which we approach English learning and usage in China has been criticized as being too rigid and formal, lacking creativity and flexibility. We tend to focus on grammar rules and vocabulary memorization, rather than on developing our own unique voice and style in English.
But I believe that we can achieve a new kind of English proficiency that is both modern and authentically Chinese. This requires a shift in our mindset and approach to English learning.
Firstly, we need to embrace the diversity of English. English is a language that has evolved over centuries and has absorbed influences from many cultures and languages.

We should not be afraid to use English in a way that reflects our own cultural heritage and identity.
Secondly, we need to develop our own style in English. Just as we have our own unique style in Chinese calligraphy or painting, we can also develop a distinctive style in English that reflects our personality and values. Finally, we need to use English as a tool to promote Chinese culture and ideas to the world. English is not just a language of communication, but also a platform for cultural exchange. By using English to showcase our cultural heritage and values, we can deepen the understanding and appreciation of China in the world. In conclusion, I believe that Chinese people can achieve a new kind of English proficiency that is both modern and authentically Chinese. By embracing the diversity of English, developing our own style, and using English as a tool for cultural exchange, we can contribute to the building of a harmonious and interconnected world.
