摘要：A wireless communications device (10) includes a transceiver (26) that transmitsand receives speech signals to and from a remote party via a wireless communicationsnetwork (100). The received speech signals include information representative of one ormore audible sounds associated with the remote party. The audible sounds may be, forexample, words uttered by the remote party, or a predetermined audio messageassociated with the remote party. A speech processing unit (30) in the user's device (10)converts the received speech signals into corresponding text based on an operatingmode of the wireless communications device (10). The converted text is then displayed tothe user on a display (14). Alternatively, the remote party's wireless communicationdevice (10) or a network entity may convert speech to text for transmission to the userbased on an indicated operating mode of the wireless communications device (10)associated with the user.
