TheSN74LV4046Aisahigh-speedsilicon-gateCMOSdevicethatispincompatiblewiththeCD4046BandtheCD74HC4046.ThedeviceisspecifiedincompliancewithJEDECStd7.

TheSN74LV4046Aisaphase-locked-loopcircuitthatcontainsalinearvoltage-controlledoscillator(VCO)andthreedifferentphasecomparators(PC1,PC2,andPC3).Asignalinputandacomparatorinputarecommontoeachcomparator.

Thesignalinputcanbedirectlycoupledtolargevoltagesignals,orindirectlycoupled(withaseriescapacitor)tosmallvoltagesignals.Aself-biasinputcircuitkeepssmallvoltagesignalswithinthelinearregionoftheinputamplifiers.Withapassivelow-passfilter,theSN74LV4046Aformsasecond-orderloopPLL.TheexcellentVCOlinearityisachievedbytheuseoflinearoperationalamplifiertechniques.
