摘要:A self-contained, hydraulically operated clutch-type coupling, allowing aminimum of two vehicular type internal combustion engines to be mounted in tandemreplacing the standard single block, multi cylinder engine. Flexibility is provided to thedriver by a computerized control system to select operation of one or more engines toproduce minimum to maximum horsepower at the flywheel, necessary to meet specificroad and traffic conditions while maintaining a constant engine (RPM) speed. In oneembodiment, a single engine is started to minimize undesirable emissions due to thecombination of cold start conditions and wall quenching and fuel conservation purposes.Upon attaining engine operating temperature uniformity, the succeeding engine(s) can bestarted and operated to provide maximum available horsepower/torque to meet roadload conditions. A second embodiment includes primary engine standard throttle linkageproviding an input signal to the computer controlling total engine (RPM) speed by meansof a stepper motor driving the secondary engine throttle linkage after synchronization ofthe two or more engines is attained and monitored by crankshaft sensor and tachometerinput to the computer.
