The outer surface may include a plurality ofmechanical energy absorbers positioned (18) adjacent the airbag and coupled to theouter surface; comprises a surface area that is greater than an inflated surface area of theairbag; include a breakable area (46) positioned adjacent the airbag, wherein thebreakable area has a weaker coupling to the outer surface on at least a first side and astronger coupling to the outer surface on at least a second side. The structure may be amonument (40) or/for a passenger seat back (42).
