Subject: Aid education to XingFu County over the Vacation
Every year, college students are inspired to help students with their study in underdeveloped areas in china. They have been trying their best to impart knowledge and offering help to those students who are so eager to learn.We went to Xingfu County ,Gansu province during the summer vacation this year. The county is one of the poorest counties in China.We stayed there for three weeks and learned a lot of what we can’t learn in school or in cities.
What We Did
We taught English at an ementary school for three weeks. To our surprise, there has no English teacher, and it made us very hard to set up an English education system for children. But we decided to have a discus of forming an English teaching group in the countryside with school. It was fun to work with local student in the country. We sang English songs together and played games. We introduced some America star andculture to them.We try our best to let them be interested in English. Finally, they were so interested in learing English.
In addition, we also conducted a summer research activities. We went to the local farmers to find out their income.
What We Found
Their living conditions were terrible.There is no advanced teaching equipment, even the desks is damaged. Many children do not have enough to eat. Because of local position and tight budgets, they are badly lacking of books, teaching resources, and other resources, teachers, computers, videos, that are necessary things.
What We THink
This volunteer practice has been beneficial in two aspects. On one hand, college volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely welcome and respected by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are learning how to deal with difficulties and face challenges as well. What’s more, by any means, this volunteer experience will be always a valuable asset in his or her life.
In my opinion, every Chinese citizen is responsible for the development of education in china. And we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.
