Unit 3  Topic 2  What does your mother do?

Section B

The main activities are 1a and 1b.

Ⅰ. Teaching aims and demands:

1. Learn some useful words and expressions:

work, in a hospital, on a farm, in an office, in a school

2. Talk about jobs and workplaces:

(1)—What does the man do?

—He’s a doctor.

(2)—Where does he work?

—He works in a hospital.

Ⅱ. Teaching aids:

Small Blackboard/Pictures/Recorder/Spinning

Ⅲ. Five-finger Teaching Plan:

 Step 1  Review

1. Say “Hello” to the students.

Ss: Good afternoon, Miss Chen.

T: Good afternoon, class. How are you?

Ss: I’m fine, thanks. How are you?

T: I’m fine, too. Sit down, please.

Ss: Thank you.

2. Review the sentences of 3a, Section A.

Eg. ---- What does he / she do?

   ---- He / She is a teacher....

3. Teaching the new phrase words by using the pictures.

Eg. T: What does the man do?

Ss: He is a doctor.

T: Yes, the doctor works in a hospital. Where does he work?

Ss: He works in a hospital.

Then lead-in 1a.

Step 2  Presentation

1. Ask the students to make the dialogues by using the pictures like this:

Sa: What does he/she/… do?

Sb: He/She is a/an ….

Sa: Where does he/she/… work?

Sb: He/She/… works ….

Then ask some students to make up their own dialogues.

2. Show the other pictures, then teach the new sentences.

Eg. T: What do the men do?

   Ss: They are farmers.

T: Where do they work?

Ss: They work on a farm.

3. Ask the students to make the dialogues like the example, then call out some students to show their own dialogues.

4. Listen to 1a, then read after the tape.

Step 3  Consolidation

  1. Listen to Part 3, then check the answers like this:

Eg. David is a doctor, he works in Beijing.

2. Ask the students to sum-up “how to use do & does”.

Step 4  Practice

1. Ask the students to finish the dialogues.

—Excuse me, what is your name?

—My name is Kangkang. And you?

—My name is Jane. Glad to meet you, Kangkang.

—Glad to meet you, too.

What do you do?

—I’m a student.

What does your father do?

—My father is a worker.

Where does he work?

—He works in Beijing.

 

  1. Ask some students to talk something about their family.
  2. Play the Guessing Game. Give the students some sentences, then ask the students to guess “What does he/she do?” .

Step 5  Project

1. Play the Job Spinning Game. Two students a group, one student asks and the other answers.

Example:

Sa: What do you do?

Sb: I’m a …

Sa: Where do you work?

Sb: I work …

2. Make a survey in a group. Then ask some students to show their answers.

3. Homework:

(1)Write a composition about your classmates’ families.

(2)Preview Section C.
